This striking 19th-century Central Asian Suzani is a masterful example of traditional silk-on-linen (or cotton) embroidery. Measuring an impressive 101 x 68 inches, this large-scale textile likely originated from the Bukhara or Samarkand regions, known for their vibrant palettes and bold "palmette" designs.

Design & Aesthetic

The piece features a classic all-over trellis pattern filled with stylized floral rosettes and pomegranates—ancient symbols of fertility and abundance. The border is particularly notable, showcasing large, alternating solar discs and fanned floral motifs that provide a rhythmic frame to the dense central field.
