A fine late Qing Dynasty (late 19th / early 20th century) woman’s informal silk robe/jacket (duinjin ao). Rendered in a brilliant pale blue silk ground, this piece is heavily adorned with fine satin stitch embroidery depicting mythical phoenixes (fenghuang) soaring among full-bloom peonies (mudan) and scattered floral sprays.
